Plymouth, NH – The UMPI Owls Volleyball team traveled to Plymouth State to play in two non-conference matches. The Owls fell 3-1 in their first match to Rhode Island, 25-14, 19-25, 25-15, 25-19. The Owls next match was against the host team, Plymouth State. Plymouth took the win in three sets, 25-10, 25-17, 25-5.
UMPI - 1 vs Rhode Island - 3: 25-14, 19-25, 25-15, 25-19
How it happened: The Panthers took the lead early in the first set and not looking back, despite a mid-set run by the Owls. In the second set, the Owls took a slight lead early and answered each point by the Panthers to keep the lead and winning the second set. The third and fourth sets both started with an early lead for the Panthers, while UMPI fought back, a couple late game runs finished each set with a Panthers victory.
Top Performers: Amalia Erives (Albuquerque, NM) led the Owls in kills with nine of her 36 attack attempts ending in a point, also adding seven digs and three assists. Hailey Kelly (Wells, ME) led the team in assist with 21, to go along with her 13 digs and four kills. Makayla Miskiewicz (Orlando, FL) led the Owls in digs with 21 on the match, while also recording four kills on the offensive end. Alexis Engel (Burns, WY) also finished with 13 digs.
UMPI – 0 vs Plymouth – 3: 25-10, 25-17, 25-5
How it happened: The first set was back and forth for the first 15 serves of the game. The Anchorman went on to win the set off a 10-0 run to help put the set away. The second and third sets, the Anchorman continued their runs to keep the Owls from gaining any momentum.
Top Performers: Alexis Engel (Burns, WY) finished the match with a team high three kills on 19 attempts while adding five digs to her stat line. Amalia Erives (Albuquerque, NM) led the Owls with nine digs. The Owls finished the match with ten kills as a team and 38 digs.
The Owls will face off against Maine Maritime Academy this Wednesday at 7:00PM.
