Presque Isle, ME - The UMPI Owls (7-13, NAC 1-1) cruised to a 3 to 0 sweep over Northern Vermont-Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference Volleyball Match played at Wieden Gymansium on the Campus of the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday afternoon. The Match marked the Owls Senior night game, as well as the return to the court for senior Laura Aroz, who saw her first action of the season after returning from major knee surgery. Both Aroz and senior Ayana Walker were recognized prior to the Match.
ME-Presque Isle handled the Hornets throughout the contest with Set scores of 25-11, 25-6, and 25-3.
Set 1 (25-11 UMPI): After leading 9 to 6 early, the Owls went on a 13 to 4 run to open up a 22-10 lead in the opening Set and finished it off for a 25 to 11 win.
Set 2 (25-6 UMPI): UMPI jumped out to a quick 7 to 1 lead on the Hornets and midway through the Match held a commanding 16 to 5 advantage before clinching the 2nd Set by the score of 25 to 6.
Set 3 (25-3 UMPI): The Owls led the 3rd Set early on 4 to 2 before going on a 15 to 1 run and walked away with a convincing 25 to 3 win and a 3 to 0 sweep over NVU-Lyndon (0-13, NAC 0-3).
Match Summary: Senior setter Laura Aroz (Sr. Tucson, AZ) had 11 assists and 15 service aces for the Owls while Taylor Miller recorded 4 kills and a .571%, Isabella Fay (Fr. Belfast, ME) had 3 kills and Ashlon Stroub (Jr. Bakersfield, CA), Ayana Walker (Sr. Columbus, GA) and Roni Shaw (Jr. Payette, ID) each notched 2 kills.
