Fort Kent, ME – The UMPI Owls women's volleyball team headed north to take on U-Maine at Fort Kent in two matches this Wednesday evening. The Bengals went on to beat the Owls in both matches 3-0.
Set 1 (25-14, UMFK): The Owls put up 17 attacks at the net, but the Bengals defense was ready as UMPI only finished with three kills and two errors on the set.
Set 2 (25-18, UMFK): UMPI would pick up their aggressiveness at the net with 33 attacks in the second set. Finishing with another three kills and ten attack errors.
Set 3 (25-21, UMFK): The Owls almost came away with a comeback win in the last set. Behind Maddi Thweatt's (Jr. Middleton, ID) two kills on four attempts with no errors and Taylor Miller's (Jr. Weeki Wachee, FL) two attacks on six attempts with no errors. As the team finished with eight kills on the set.
Match Summary: Setter Hailey Kelly (Fy. Wells, ME) finished with ten assists. Thweatt finished the match with four kills on 14 attempts and only one error. Miller also only had one error on her 15 attempts finishing with four kills as well. Libero Breanna Epperly (Fy. Reserve, LA) and Thweat both led the team with three digs.
Set 1 (25-18, UMFK): UMPI came out with 32 attacks at the net in the first set, ending with six kills but adding eight errors. Thweatt had another efficient set at the net with two kills on four attacks and no errors.
Set 2 (25-19, UMFK): The Owls continued to bring each game closer but not able to close the Bengals out. Miranda Washinawatok (Jr. Shawano, WI) led the team with two of their five kills on the set.
Set 3 (25, 20, UMFK): This back and forth set came down to the very end. UMPI finished the set with seven kills and one error on 33 attempts. Miller once again led the Owls with three kills on five attempts.
Match Summary: Kelly added another seven assists on the match. Epperly once again led the back row with six digs. Thweatt ended the match with three kills on 19 attempts and three digs. Washinawatok and Miller led with four kills. Roni Shaw (Jr. Payette, ID) also added three kills to the team's total.
The Owls will head to the University of Maine at Machias on Sunday the 6th before returning home for a rematch vs UMFK.
