Owls Fly Past the Rams

Presque Isle, ME – Your UMPI Owls played in their first home Volleyball match of the year, hosting Unity College in two matches on the first evening of Homecoming weekend. The Owls won both matches 3-0, giving them their first wins on the year.

Match 1

Set 1 (25-10, UMPI): The Owls took control early with an 8-2 lead and never looked back! Finishing the set with 11 kills. Led by Taylor Miller (Jr. Weeki Wachee, FL) and Roni Shaw (Jr. Payette, ID) with three kills apiece. Shaw also led the Owls on the defensive end with four digs in the first set.

Set 2 (25-12, UMPI): Ashlon Stroub (Jr. Bakersfield, CA) led the Owls on the defensive end with three digs, whicle Maddi Thweatt (Jr. Middleton, ID) had three kills on the second set.

Set 3 (25-13, UMPI): A team effort on the defensive end led to 16 digs in the second half as the Rams were more aggressive at the net. Miranda Washinawatok (Jr. Shawano, WI) led the Owls with four Digs.

Match 1 summary:  The Owls ended the match with a total of 24 kills, Miller led UMPI with five kills on nine attempts. Hailey Kelly (Fy. Wells, ME) finished with 14 assists. The Owls had great team defense with 35 digs on the match, three Owls with five or more digs.

Match 2

Set 1 (25-15, UMPI): Miller led the way on the offensive end once again in the first set with four kills on ten attempts. Libero Breanna Epperly (Fy. Reserve, LA) led UMPI on the defensive end with eight digs!

Set 2 (25-12, UMPI): Five kills for Thweatt led the Owls at the net while she also led the team with three digs in the second set.

Set 3 (25-11, UMPI): Miller finished the day with another four kills in the third set. Thweatt led the Owls with four digs.

Match 2 Summary: The Owls were aggressive at the net as the team ended the match with 33 kills, led by Miller with eight kills. Madison Exferd (Jr. Payette, ID) finished with 17 assists, Kelly ended with 11. Thweatt was everywhere on the defensive end with 12 Digs on the match and Epperly finished with 11 herself. UMPI finished with 16 service aces on the match as well.

UMPI will finish their Homecoming weekend with two matches with U-Maine at Machias on Sunday at 2:00 PM, in Wieden Hall on UMPI campus.
