Bangor, Maine - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Volleyball Team defeated the Husson Eagles in 3 straight sets on Saturday at Newman Gym on the Campus of Husson University. All three sets were extremely close with the Owls (10-16, 3-2) coming out on top 26 to 24, 25 to 21, and 25 to 22.
UMPI would forge ahead several times over the course of the North Atlantic Conference match only to see Husson (5-18, 2-3) creep back to within 1 or 2 points.The Owls would take control winning the first two sets and in the third set, UMPI would grab an early 11-3 lead before the Eagles went on a run and eventually closed the gap to one point of the Owls, 22-21, before Me-Presque Isle sealed the victory and match.
Every single Owl that played recorded at least one serving ace by the end of the three sets. Dominating the floor, Devine Hoskie (Jr. Shonto, AZ) had a tremendous game recording a double-double with 20 kills and 27 digs. Laura Aroz (Jr. Tucson, AZ) consistently set up her teammates on the attack, accumulating 27 assists and three aces. Maddie Thweatt (So. Middleton, ID) and Ashlon Stroub (Bakersfield, CA) both had four kills and hit double digits in digs with 17 and 16 respectively. Chandler Westin (Fr. Denver, CO) added 14 digs.
Hanna Hembrow had a nice game for Husson with 22 kills, 12 digs and 4 aces while libero Adrienne Beatty had a team 24 digs.
Bangor, Maine - In their second match of the day, the Owls fell to the League's top seeded team, Maine Maritime Academy. The Mariners were dominant, showing why they will be the #1 Seed in the upcoming NAC Volleyball Championships winning in three straight sets 10 to 25, 16 to 25 and 9 to 25.
Alexa Cacacie led all players with 16 kills, hitting .696 percent, and also contributed two digs, two aces and a block for MMA. Rachel Melampy tallied a double-double with 16 digs and 10 kills, and also added two aces and an assist, while Jessica D'Auria also contributed 10 kills to go along with five digs, an assist and a block. Devine Hoskie (Jr. Shonto, AZ) had another outstanding game with 22 digs, 7 kills, 3 aces and 1 block to lead UMPI and Laura Aroz (Jr. Tucson, AZ) had 8 assists.
Next up: UMaine-Presque Isle will compete in the Final Four NAC Championships vs. SUNY Canton at 8:00PM on November 2nd. The Final Four will be held at Maine Maritime Academy.
