Johnson, VT - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Volleyball (8-15, 1-1) won their North Atlantic Conference match today against the Host Northern Vermont University-Johnson Badgers (9-9, 0-3) by a score of 3 to 1.
The Badgers came out strong winning the first set over the Owls 25 to 20 before UMaine-Presque Isle took complete control of the match winning 3 sets in a row. UMPI would win by scores of 25 to 15, 25 to 6 and 25 to 11.
Leading the way for the Owls in their 1st of 2 matches on the day was Miranda Washinawatok (So. Shawano, WI) who recorded 13 kills, 7 digs and 1 block. Outside Hitter Devine Hoskie (Jr. Shonto, AZ) had 9 kills for UMPI along with 7 digs and 3 assists, Maddi Tweatt (So. Middleton, ID) had a team high 16 digs and setter Laura Aroz (Jr. Tucson, AZ) had 28 assists. Outside Hitter Ashlon Stroub (So. Bakersfield, CA) added 9 digs for the visiting Owls team.
Nikola Knapova had 11 kills and 15 digs for NVU-Johnson teammate Julie Van Etten finished the match with a team-high 19 assists.
In the 2nd match of the day UMPI (9-15, 2-1 in NAC Play) handily defeated Northern Vermont-Lyndon in 3 straight sets, winning all three sets by the identical score of 25 to 7. For the Owls, Devine Hoskie had a nice outing with 8 kills and 12 digs, while Maddi Tweatt had 10 digs and teammate Laura Aroz had a game-high 19 assists.
Next up: Me-Presque Isle will compete at Husson University on Saturday October 27th at 11:00AM against the Host Eagles and then will play Maine Maritime at at 1:00PM. Both matches are North Atlantic Conference games.
