Presque Isle, ME - The UMPI Owls women's volleyball team took three straight sets against Fisher College in the first of three matches being played today at Wieden Hall on the Campus of The University of Maine at Presque Isle.
The Owls (3-4) and the Falcons (1-5) battled competitively in each of the sets with UMPI narrowly winning all three by the scores of 26-24, 25-23 and 27-25. UMPI jumped out to an early lead in the 3rd set 11 to 2 before Fisher fought their way back to take a 24 to 23 lead late in the game. Me-Presque Isle made several tremendous plays scoring 4 of the last 5 points to seal the victory.
Outside Hitter/Middle Blocker Miranda Washinawatok (So. Shawano, WI) led the Owls offense with 12 kills followed by Magaret Dickinson (So. Brunswick, ME) with 5 kills. Laura Aroz (Jr. Tucson, AZ) once again contributed heavily to the win with 17 assists while Ashlon Stroub (So. Bakersfiled, CA) added 5 more helpers. Defensively Washinawatok recorded 4 digs and Dickinson and Devine Hoskie (Jr. Shonto, AZ) had 3 each. Savanna Deavult (Fr. Hanford, CA) had 2 solo blocks and 2 block assists for UMPI.
Fisher College who battked throughtout the match, was led by Freshman Chyna Carter with 17 kills and Freshman Outside Hitter Yeryvel Catala added 11. Sophomore Lea Aime notched 10 assists for the Falcons.
UMPI plays UMaine-Machias today at 2:00PM.
