Boston, MA - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Volleyball Team fell to UMass - Boston in their first of two matches on Saturday, September 8th. The Beacons (5-0) swept three straight sets from UMPI (2-3) by the scores of 25-6, 25-8 and 25-6.
In their opening match UMass-Boston hit a season-high .439 as a team as they held Presque Isle to single digits in all three sets. Senior Eileen Shi scored a match-high 11 kills and hit .500. Junior Sidnee Berch continued to dominate at the end line scoring a match-best six aces, as she continues to lead the Beacons serving core. Senior Macayla Chianco tallied 12 digs, while Senior Christina Elliott and Sophomore Carsen Komminsk combined for 22 assists respectively.
In the Owls 2nd Match of the day at UMass-Boston, Bowdoin College of Brunswick, Maine (4-0) defeated UMPI (2-4). Bowdoin earned their fourth consecutive 3-0 win to open the campaign with the 25-9, 25-12, 25-14 win.
Junior Gabby Koenig led the Polar Bear attack with a dozen kills while also pitching in 8 digs. Sophomore Emily King had a team-best 16 digs while Sophomore Lexie Freund recorded 33 assists for Bowdoin. The Polar Bears finished with 16 service aces in the match.
UMPI Junior Laura Aroz had a team high 9 assists along with 4 digs. Sophomore Miranda Washinawatock had 6 kills, 5 digs and 1 block and Junior Devine Hoskie led the Owls with 8 digs and added 4 kills.
UMPI will host Fisher College and the University of Maine at Machias on Sunday, September 16th with Matches at 10:00AM, 12:00PM and 2:00PM.
