Waltham, MA - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Volleyball Team traveled to Boston for two Matches at Brandeis University on Friday September 7th and ran into quality opponents in Brandeis and Gordon College. In the 1st Match of the evening, Brandeis (4-1) defeated the Owls (2-1) in three straight sets by the scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-14.
The Judges were led by Emma Bartlett with 7 Kills and 2 Blocks while Stephanie Borr and Belle Scott each recorded 6 Kills. Yvette Cho had 19 Digs for Brandeis and Marlee Nork added 18 Assists. Miranda Washinawatock (So. Shawano, WI) paced the Owls with 7 Kills and 9 Digs. Devine Hoskie (Jr. Shonto, AZ) added 4 Kills along with 7 Digs, while Laura Aroz (Jr. Tucson, AZ) had a team high 12 Assists.
In the 2nd Match The UMPI Owls (2-2) fell to Gordon College in 3 straight sets narrowly losing the initial set by the score of 28-24. The Fighting Scots then won the next two sets 25-7 and 25 to 11 to improve their record to (5-3) on the young season.
Jamie Tafoya led Gordon with 10 Kills while Amanda Snyder and Marta Batson each had 5 Kills for the Scots. Ashlyn Gergins tallied 26 Assists. For UMPI, Miranda Washinawatock recorded 6 Kills and 3 Digs. Laura Aroz had 9 Assists for the Owls.
UMPI returns to action tomorrow at UMass-Boston facing the Host Beacons at 11:00AM and then will square off against fellow Maine school Bowdoin College at 1:00PM
