Volleyball's Season Comes to a Close

GORHAM, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (11-22) saw their season come to an end this Saturday.  The traveled to Southern Maine University and battled the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors (17-8) and the host Huskies (20-9).  The Owls would drop both matches by scores of 3-0.

Eastern Connecticut State def. UMPI 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-12)

The Owls would hang tough early but eventually fall to a strong Warriors team.  Eastern Connecticut State was much more efficient on offense, hitting at a .223 percentage, while the Owls would hit just .048.

Miranda Washinawatok (FR, Shawano, WI) ended the match with ten kills and 12 digs.  Maddi Thweatt (FR, Middleton, ID) would add nine digs to the defensive effort.  Brittney Harper (FR, East Mountain, NS) would collect 17 assists. 

USM def. UMPI 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-18)

The Huskies would convert 43 kills on their way to a sweep over the Owls.

Thweatt would set the pace offensively with eight kills.  Brooke Franklin (FR, Baltimore, MD) and Washinawatok would tally five, while Washinawatok would add nine digs.  Ashlon Stroub (FR, Bakerfield, CA) added to the defensive effort, digging out eight balls.  Harper ended with 15 assists.

The Owls season draws to a close.  The best season on record since 2011, the 2017 version of UMPI Volleyball more than doubled their wins from last season ending with an 11-22 record.
