PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The Owls (11-16) would sweep the Machias Clippers (8-15) in a doubleheader of matches on Wednesday evening. It would be the Owls' fourth and fifth wins over Machias this season.
UMPI def. Machias 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20)
The Owls would collect 44 kills and 15 service aces, and the Clippers would hit at a paltry .011 percentage in the first match.
Taylor Johnson (FR, Eagle, ID) and Maddi Thweatt (FR, Middleton, ID) would both end with 12 kills in the win, Thweatt would earn a double-double by tallying ten digs. Miranda Washinawatok (FR, Shawano, WI) would also be credited with a double-double, knocking down ten kills, while digging out 16 balls. Brittney Harper (FR, East Mountain, NS) would have a good match directing the offense, dealing out 32 assists.
UMPI def. Machias 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-21)
Machias would finish with a negative attack percentage while the Owls would continue to collect points off the serve, against tallying 15 aces.
Washinawatok would lead the offense with eight kills, and end with 16 digs. Thweatt would add seven kills and nine digs to the effort. Johnson would collect six kills and seven digs, while Harper would finish her strong night with 24 assists in the nightcap.
The Owls will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Emerson College. They will challenge the host at 11 am on Saturday, and then face off with Salem State at 1 pm.
