GORHAM, ME – The UMPI Owls (6-11) were swept in two straight sets on Saturday morning at The University of Southern Maine (12-4).
USM def. UMPI 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-20)
The Huskies would pound out 43 kills on their way to a .298 hitting percentage.
The Owls would get seven kills and five digs from Taylor Johnson (FR, Eagle, ID). Maddi Thweatt (FR, Middleton, ID) and Ashlon Straub (FR, Bakersfield, CA) would each earn seven digs in the matchup, while Thweatt and Miranda Washinawatok (FR, Shawano, WI) would be credited with four kills apiece.
The Huskies would be paced by Faolain Harrington (SO, Auburn, NH), who would end the match with 13 kills.
USM def. UMPI 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-12)
Once again the Huskies would have a very efficient attack to bury the Owls. They would collect 37 kills with a .291 hitting percentage. The Owls would be stronger in the second match, finishing with 29 kills and a .152 hitting percentage.
Washinawatok ended the match with 11 kills and six digs. Thweatt turned in seven kills and seven digs with her effort, while Brittney Harper (FR, East Mountain, NS) and Johnson would finish with nine digs apiece. Harper would record 22 assists in the finale.
Ten different USM players would record kills in the match, with Jess Williamson (SR, Goftwtown, NH) being the only one to reach double digits with ten. Nicole Shmitz (JR, St. Paul, MN) would tally 28 assists.
The Owls will have their first home matchup of the year on Wednesday, October 4th. The doubleheader with the University of Maine at Fort Kent will start at 5 pm.
