JOHNSON, VT – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Volleyball team (4-21) continued NAC play on Friday night, defeating host Johnson State College (2-17) 3-0.
The Owls jumped on the Badgers in the early going, taking the first set 25-9. Johnson Sate's negative attack percentage would be their downfall in the first one, committing seven attacking errors while only converting four kills. The host team would improve their attack in the second set, but UMPI would still take a comfortable 25-15 win. The third set was tight, the Badgers would end with seven kills and just one error in their attack, but it was volume that helped the Owls earn the sweep, as they would have their best attack of the night, 12 kills to just five errors.
The Owls would end with a .191 attack percentage, but would record 22 service aces on their way to the victory. Despite the Badgers turning around their attack throughout the match and ending with a .132 percentage, seven ball-handling errors along with the Owls' serving success on the night would be too much to overcome.
Abby Jewett (SR, Bass Harbor, ME) would lead the team in kills with 12. Hannah Williams (SO, Park Falls, NS) would record ten digs, while Williams, Laura Aroz (FR, Tuscon, AZ), and Sara Boies (FR, Baileyville, ME) would notch six service aces apiece.
The Owls continue on their trip on Saturday as they face Lyndon State at 10 AM. They will then have a rematch against Johnson State at 2 PM, that match will be played at Lyndon State.
