Head coach Mark Kornachuk and his Owls will play #2 seed Agnes Scott College in the first round of the GSAC volleyball tournament Friday, November 7th at 12:00 PM.
The 8-17 Scotties are led by 2013 all-conference middle hitter Lauren Aikens who currently leads the Great South in kills, both per set (3.08) and overall (228), blocks per set (0.77) and hitting percentage (.246). Aikens, who will receive strong consideration as 2014 GSAC player of the year, is joined by senior Shelli Sherman, who was named GSAC Libero of the Year in 2013.
This tournament will mark the last match play of Presque Isle seniors Shannon Brown and Molly Lindsey. Lindsey is an athletic training major from Winthrop, Maine and has been a member of the volleyball team for two years. Lindsey is one of the Owls off court leaders and is second on the team in digs per set (1.73).
Brown has been an outstanding contributor to the Presque Isle squad for two years as well, being named to the GSAC All-Conference team in 2013. Brown leads the Owls in virtually every attack statistical category and also in total digs with 182 and digs per set (2.28).
Should the Owls beat Agnes Scott on Friday, they will play the winner of the #3 seed Finlandia-#6 Pine Manor match at 3:00 PM Saturday. A consolation match Saturday is planned should the Owls not win match one. Time for that possible match is to be determined.
