3 YEAR WINLESS STREAK BROKEN: OWLS TAKE MATCH AT MACHIAS

3 YEAR WINLESS STREAK BROKEN: OWLS TAKE MATCH AT MACHIAS

Maine-Presque Isle won their first volleyball match in three years, by defeating UM-Machias 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-10) Saturday on their home court.

The Owls were paced by Senior Shannon Brown with 5 kills and 8 digs.  Morgan Swan added 4 kills and 13 assists to give Presque Isle their first match victory since October 1, 2011 when the Owl beat Massachusetts Maritime 3-0.

The match started much like most of the matches have during the winless streak, the Owls lost game one, 25-17.  But head coach Mark Kornachuk saw more communication and a greater effort as the games progressed.

"The team came together after the first game to make the win," said Kornachuck.  "Communication was great, each player covered what they needed and we showed court awareness.  We showed confidence in taking the lead and keeping it…I am very proud of these ladies."

The 1-16 Owls will next travel to St. Joseph's of Maine on Monday, October 13 for a tri-match.
