(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- Playing in the team's only two home matches of the season, the University of Maine-Presque Isle women's volleyball team was unable to break into the win column for the season as they dropped a pair to the University of Maine-Machias.
The Owls fall to 0-10 on the season. They will get another crack at an elusive first win when they travel to Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada to face St. Thomas University next Saturday, October 13th. The teams will play two matches against each other with the first one starting at 12pm.
The Owls were able to hang point-for-point in the first game of this match. A critical serving out of order error on UMPI proved pivotal as a score of 18-18 with UMPI serving turned into a 19-17 disadvantage and the Clippers serving after the penalty. UMM took advantage and ran off the game's final 6 points from there.
The Clippers' Heather Leonard filled the scoresheet with 6 kills, 3 assists, and 3 service aces.
Allison MacDonald (Sr./Antigonish, NS) contributed 9 aces for the Owls.
UMPI showed some life in game two of the second match, appearing to be the team with more energy on their way to a 25-18 win. However they were not able to carry that momentum into the next set and Machias (13-5) closed out the match in short order with decisive wins in games 4 and 5.
Leonard once again was a big factor for the Clippers, connecting on 20 kills.
Randi Kaplan (So./Embden, ME) finished the 2nd match with 19 assists and 8 aces. MacDonald continued her hot serving with 11 more aces.
