(GORHAM, ME) – The University of Southern Maine Huskies volleyball team swept the University of Maine Presque Isle Owls 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-11) in a non-conference match at Hill Gymnasium Tuesday night.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 7-11 overall. The Owls drop to 0-6 with theloss.
Four USM players totaled five or more kills, and the team combined to serve 19 aces to push past UMPI. Junior outside hitter MadalynTerry (Kennebunkport, Maine/Kennebunk) finished with a team-high seven aces, and sophomore defensive specialist Nicole Hansen (Biddeford, Maine) had five aces to go along with five digs. Freshman setter Bridget Burns (Warrenville,Ill/Wheaton Warrenville South) tallied four aces, 20 assists, and five digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Elizabeth Kofstad (So./Presque Isle, ME) led the Owls with seven kills. Sophomore setter Randi Kaplan (So/Embden, ME) finished with 10 digs and three assists, and senior setter Allison MacDonald (Sr./Antigonish, Nova Scotia) chipped in with eight digs, two assists, and one ace.
UMPI has a quick turnaround playing two matches at Unity College on Wednesday night. First match is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm.
