Presque Isle, ME 9/18/11 – Yesterday, the University of Maine-Presque Isle women's volleyball team won their first match in a tight 5-set affair against Unity College. That match was played as part of a triangular at the University of Maine-Fort Kent. On Sunday, the rematch between the two squads came on UMPI's home court, Wieden Hall.
While the two teams again went to 5 sets, this time it was Unity that pulled out the 3-2 victory (25-17, 20-25, 14-25, 25-14, 15-13). The Owls were hampered in the match by an injury to setter Randi Kaplan (Fr./Embden, ME), with an apparent hamstring injury, leaving them without their season leader in assists.
In UMPI's other match on the day they were swept in three hard fought games by the University of Maine-Machias, 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-23). They are now 1-13 on the season.
The Owls are off now until Saturday October 1st, when they travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy to face the host Buccaneers and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Match times will be 11am and 1pm respectively.
