Owls Improved in NAC Championships

Weston, MA - (Regis College)

The University of Maine at Presque Isle women made strong showings in the 2019 edition of the North Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships held at Regis College in Weston, ME on Saturday and Sunday.  The meet also served as conference championships for the NECC and GNAC.  Even though the Owls finished seventh of the seven NAC schools and out of the points in the combined championship, six personal best performances including one school record were recorded.  Irina Norkin (Denmark, ME) broke her previous 800m record set just one week previously, lowering it to 2:42.39 in running a perfectly paced two laps.  Chenoa Jackson (Wilton, ME) achieved a long pursued goal of breaking three minutes for the 800m as she went from 3:01.45 to 2:57.93, a huge improvement of 3.52 seconds from her last race at Fitchburg State.  Also recording personal bests were Jenny Sanborn (Sangerville, ME) in the 100m (18.56), Laura Fitzgerald (Springvale, ME) in both the 100m (17.96) and the 200m (40.07), and Dianna Poulin (Woodland, ME) in the shot (6.60m/21-08).  Norkin scored one point in her 800m run in finishing in sixth spot as Marge Dickinson scored two in the javelin (fourth, 2 points).
