Fitchburg, MA –After being snowed out on Friday at Regis University, the Owls contingent made the short trip to Fitchburg State on Saturday for the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on Saturday. Cool conditions changed over to those being warm and dry making for the completion of all scheduled events that saw seven new school marks set. Chenoa Jackson (Wilton, ME) dropped her season's and school bests in both the 1500 and 800 meters events. Her 6:32.14 was three seconds better than her mark set at St. Lawrence University last week, and her 800m mark of 3:16.43 was more significand, it being lowered by better than eight seconds. Jennie Sanborn ran her 100/200m double and Casey Lovely (Easton, ME) made her debut in the javelin and discus events. Her 16.11m/52-10 distance in the discus established the mark to better in subsequent meets.
On the men's side, efforts resulted in a team score strong enough to place the Owls in eighth position of the 16 collegiate and club teams competing. The 4x400m relay team of Matthew Payan (Auburn ,NH), Paul Kaplan (Embden, ME), Jahvion Lockridge (Grand Rapids, MI), and Travis Simpson (Maple Shade , NJ) placed third and scored six points, moving the Owls ahead of Norwich University in the final standings. The time of 3:57.72 will be the mark to beat as the season progresses. Running event school bests were reestablished by Chris Udobi (Nigeria) in the 100m (11.86), and Andrew Hunt (Peterborough, NH) in both the 800m (2:22.21) and the 1500m (5:02.19). Andy Tapia (Dover, NJ) broke last week's mark in the shot put, hitting a distance of 8.65m/28-4.
Other events completed by athletes were Udobi (4x100m, 200m), Lockridge (4x100m, 100m, 200m, long jump), Payan (100m, 200m, 4x100m, long jump), Simpson (4x100m, 200m, 400m), Kaplan (4x100m, 100m, triple jump, discus), Tapia (discus), Allen Stanback (Salem, NJ, 100m, shot), Adan Mohamed (Portland, ME, 800m, 1500m), Kyle Davis (Addison, ME, 800m, 1500m), Sam Carpenter (New Bedford, MA, shot), and Mike Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME, 100m, 200m). The 30.5 team points were scored by Kaplan (8.75), Udobi (7.25), Payan (6), Lockridge (5.75), and Simpson (2.75).
The Owls next head to Southern New Hampshire University in Hooksett, NH for the Penmen Relays with a 10:00am start.
