Year: 1st Season

Leo Kashian is starting his first season at U-Maine at Presque Isle as sprints/jumps/relays coach.  Prior to joining the staff at UMPI, Leo coached three years at Husson University as sprints/jumps/relays coach, for six years as track coach at Caribou High School and was later assistant coach of Caribou Middle School boys and girls track for three years.  Leo also spent five years as sprints/jumps/hurdles/relays coach for men and women at the University of Lowell (now U-Mass Lowell), and for two years prior to that as assistant jumps/throws coach of girls and boys track at Billerica High School in Billerica, Massachusetts. During his tenure at Lowell, Leo coached two Open New England champions, a men's hurdler and a women's high jumper. The high jumper went on to set a school record 5'-10.75" while winning the high jump at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships.  She later went on to place fifth at the NCAA Divisoin II Outdoor National Championship with a jump of 5'-8.25", thus becoming a double All-American

 

While at Husson Leo coached the sprints/jumps/relays during which time every men's sprint, jump, and relay school record was set as were numerous women's school records. Most recently Leo helped lead the Husson women's and men’s teams to North Atlantic Conference team titles in the spring of 2018.  Leo has had many athletes under his tutelage qualify for and attend NCAA Division 3 New England Championship meets.

 

Leo is a graduate of the University of Lowell having earned a B.S. in Industrial Technology and a Master’s in Education. While at Lowell he was Team Captain his senior year, and he set school records in the 880 yd. run, 1000 yd. run, 1500 m run, and the triple jump.  Leo placed third in the Open All-New England Championships in the indoor 880 yd. run in 1979 and placed sixth in 1981. He was also Eastern Conference Champion in the 1000 yd. run in 1979 and in the 800 m run 1981.

 

Leo and his wife Ann reside in Caribou and they have four children.
