Owls Make NAC Playoffs - 7-0 Win over Hornets

Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls women's soccer team advances to the North Atlantic Conference playoffs after a statement win vs Northern Vermont University at Lyndon. The Owls 7-0 victory was their largest margin of victory on the year. This win advances the team to the playoffs for the first time since being a part of the NAC, as they are sitting at the fourth seed.

The Owls not only secured their playoff spot, they also celebrated senior day with their two seniors. Hannah Rossignol (Madawaska, ME), midfielder and Kylie Vining (Island Falls, ME), who is a student assistant this year.

UMPI started the game in a very calm and controlling manor, maintaining possession throughout the entire game. The Owls finished the game with 22 total shots, 14 on goal and only letting up five shots by Lyndon, four of which were on goal. Savannah Rodriguez (Presque Isle, ME) saved all of the Hornets shots, earning her sixth win of the year.

The Owls scoring started early with a goal in the 8th minute by Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME), assisted by Rhylee Kinney (Presque Isle, ME). Ireland scored yet another in the 19th minute, this time assisted by Ashlyn Wing (Palermo, ME). Two more goals would come from the Owls in the first half, this time both coming from Rossignol. Scoring one in the 27th minute, assisted by Monica McLaughlin (Caribou, ME) and another quickly following in the 28th. Rossignol was not done there as she completed a Hat Trick in the 66th minute of the game, this time assisted by Rodriguez, all the way from goal. She was not alone as Ireland was also able to complete a Hat Trick, scoring her third goal in the 73rd minute of the game, assisted by Kourtney West (Limestone, ME). Finally, Zhoreen Malik (Kenya, Nairobi) put the final touches on the match in the 85th minute to give the Owls their final goal of the game.

The Owls finish their conference play 5-4 in the regular season while they sit 7-6, awaiting their final game vs non-conference opponent UMFK in a game at the Presque Isle Middle School field Sunday at noon.
