Waterville, ME – The UMPI Owls women's soccer team took on Thomas College Terriers in Waterville today. This North Atlantic Conference Divisional match up, was a big game as both teams are fighting for a spot in the playoffs. UMPI came away with the 1-0 victory in the 90-minute match.
Savannah Rodriguez (Presque Isle, ME) led the Owls defensively, in the net, finishing with four saves in the shut out game. The Owls defense was complemented by their offense, finishing the game with 11 shots, seven of which were on goal.
An aggressive first half for the Owls still finished 0-0 through the first 45 minutes. Despite the Owls eight shots, five on goal. The second half the Owls were able to put one in the back of the net, as Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME) scored in the 71st minute with an assist off Zhoreen Malik (Kenya, Nairobi). Ireland's fours goal this season was the only goal of the day, giving the Owls the edge.
The Owls will head to New Hampshire to play in a non-conference game vs Fisher College, the teams will play at a neutral site, at Rivier University at 1:00PM tomorrow.
