Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls women's soccer team finishes the cross-divisional weekend sweep. The Owls faced off against North Atlantic Conference opponent SUNY Canton Roos, winning 4-0. This brings the Owls to 4-6 on the season and 3-4 in the NAC.
The Owls came out aggressive yet again in this match vs the Roos, as they maintained possession for the majority of the game. Finishing the game with 16 shots, 12 on goal compared to the Roos 10 shots, 6 on goal. Savannah Rodriguez (Presque Isle, ME) was in goal for the Owls, leading the Owls defense, finishing her shut out game with six saves.
Zhoreen Malik (Kenya, Nairobi) started it off for the Owls, scoring her fourth goal on the weekend, with an outstanding long pass by defender Monica McLaughlin (Caribou, ME), giving the Owls a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. Another goal followed shortly for the Owls, as Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME) scored off a pass by Malik in the 27th minute to give the Owls a two-goal lead.
In the second half, the Owls stayed consistent with their attacks, as Taylor Shute (Vassalboro, ME) scored her first goal of the year in the 63rd minute. With another assist by Ireland, her sixth on the season. With the Owls leading by three goals, they were able to put one more in the back of the net off some nifty ball handling by Hannah Rossignol (Madawaska, ME), as she juked a couple Roos defenders, including the goalie, and walked the ball into the net. The assist went to Rhylee Kinney (Presque Isle, ME), giving the Owls a four-goal lead.
The Owls travel down to Thomas College next, in a big divisional NAC match up, Saturday October 16 at 1:00PM.
