Presque Isle, ME – The Owls women's soccer team finishes the day with a statement win over the NVU-Johnson Badgers. The Owls took the game 5-1, scoring four goals in the first half. This advances UMPI to 2-4 in the NAC and 3-6 overall.
Savannah Rodriguez (Presque Isle, ME) earned the win in goal for the Owls, her third win on the year. Finishing the game with one save, as the Owls defense allowed only one shot on goal in the first half. The Owls finished the game with 16 shots and 11 shots on goal, compared to the Badgers six shots, five on goal.
UMPI started early with back-to-back goals by Senior Hannah Rossignol (Madawaska, ME). Scoring in the 14th minute, assisted by Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME) and another goal in the 15th minute, this time assisted by Rodriguez off a punt, her first career assist. Two more goals came in the first half as Zhoreen Malik (Kenya, Nairobi) scored two goals to finish the first half. One in the 36th minute off a penalty outside the 18, and another coming from an assist from Ireland.
In the 61st minute, Johnson was able to put one in the back of the net and gain some momentum. However, this was not for long as Malik added yet another goal, as she completed the Hat-Trick, and yet another assist by Ireland. Malik finished with three goals, Rossignol with two goals, and Ireland assisting on three of those goals.
The Owls will look to sweep the weekend with their next home match vs SUNY Canton Roos, kick off at noon tomorrow.
