Marcy, NY – The UMPI Owls women's soccer team earns their first North Atlantic Conference win of the year, vs the SUNY Poly Wildcats. The Owls advance to 2-5 and 1-3 in the NAC. The Owls 1-0 victory over the Wildcats was another close battle ending with only one goal. It was Zhoreen Malik (Kenya, Nairobi) with the goal in the early minutes of the second half.
The team were back and forth throughout the entire game, each team ending with seven shots on goal. UMPI were the aggressors throughout the game as they maintained possession the majority of the match, although the Wildcats counters kept them right on the Owls heels. After the first half ended with a favor to UMPI with six shot to their five, as well as five corner kicks to their three. Although it was early in the second half at the 48-minute mark where Malik was able to burry one in the back of the net, as Monic McLaughlin (Caribou, ME) set her up with the assist.
Savannah Rodriguez (Presque Isle, ME) played the 90-minutes in goal for the Owls earning a win with seven saves on the game. Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME) continues to be aggressive with three of the seven shots on goal for the Owls, leading the team.
The Owls will head back to Presque Isle as they will host East NAC opponent Husson October 2nd at 1:00PM.
