Buzzards Bay, MA – The University of Maine at Presque Isle women's soccer team traveled to Massachusetts for their season opener vs Mass Maritime. This young Owls roster fought hard against the experienced team, giving up just one goal early on, eventually losing 1-0.
A corner kick by the Bucs early, under the five-minute mark, lead to a goal by Mass. Maritime. The Owls then responded with a fury of shots, the Owls put five shots up in the following 20 minutes of the game, but not able to put one through the net.
The second half of the match was just as back and forth as the first. Both teams playing great defense, although there were many scoring opportunities for both teams, neither were able to find the back of the net. By the end of the game, the Bucs put up ten shots and five of which were on goal. The Owls put up more shots with 16 but were only able to get four on goal.
Keeper Savannah Rodriguez finished her complete game with four saves, and giving up only one goal for the Owls. While Lindsy Durgin earned the win for Mass Maritime in the goal with four saves.
The Owls will head right into conference play with a game at Maine Maritime Academy. The North Atlantic Conference schools will face off Saturday September 11 at 1:00pm. Live stats and video at Owls.umpi.edu
