Presque Isle, ME – UMPI's women's soccer team beat Northern Vermont University – Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference match up on this Homecoming weekend. The Owls won 2-1 during the rainy day in Presque Isle.
The game started with a defensive battle for the NAC teams as the first half ended 0-0, with three shots on goal for each team. Mid-Fielder Hannah Nadeau (So. Madawaska, ME) would then lead the Owls to a strong second half. Nadeau scored both of the Owls goals in the game. One in the 52nd minute and another in the 62nd, assisted by Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Jr. Seattle, WA).
The Owls continued to put pressure on the Hornets, putting up seven shots on goal in the second half. Lea Crompton cut the lead to one with a goal in the 80th minute for the Hornets. Lyndon kept the pressure on the Owls net for the remainder of the game, but UMPI's defense held up in the end.
This win gives the Owls their first NAC win of the year. Savannah Rodriguez (Fy. Presque Isle, ME) earned the win in the net with nine saves on the day.
UMPI will have their Alumni game tomorrow, Sunday the 29th at 10:00am to finish off their Homecoming weekend. After that the Owls will head to Vermont to take on NVU – Johnson in a NAC match up, next weekend.
