Presque Isle, ME - Mikayla Churchill, a senior defender for the University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Soccer Team, was recently selected to the North Atalntic Conference 2018 Sportsmanship Team along with seven other NAC players from around the league. Churchill has been a four-year starter for the Owls and played every single minute of all 15 UMPI soccer games this season. She only missed 1 game in her college career which was due to an injury.
Churchill gained high praise from her Coaches Keli and Aaron Marston. "In addition to being an outstanding leader on and off the field, Mikayla was tireless and gritty as a player," said Co-Coach Aaron Marston. "Her work ethic, positive attitude and consummate sportsmanship was recognized by everyone she played for, with and against. She played wherever she was most needed, never had a complaint and always did so with a big smile on her face. She will be missed greatly next year."
Other NAC Award winners just announced included Deb Biche Labbe of Thomas College - Coach of the Year, senior forward Makayla Lewis of MMA - Player of the Year, senior "Back" Susana DeFrank of MMA - Defensive Player of the Year, freshamn Katherine Hoving of Thomas College - Rookie of the Year, and Lydia Roy of UMF was named Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year.
