Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Soccer Team finished their 2018 season today at Park Family Field in a North Atlantic Conference contest against the Eagles of Husson University. The Owls (2-13, 0-7) were hoping to finish on a strong note but Husson (5-9-1, 4-2-1) came in with an aggressive offensive mindset right from the start and quickly built an early lead on their way to a 6 to 1 win.
The Eagles Bri Saulter, from Hermon, Maine, lifted a shot from 18 yards out on the left side over the outstretched arms of Owls goalie Alexis Levesque for a 1 to 0 Husson advantage just 2 mimutes and 40 seconds into the match. Mackenzie St. Pierre had the assist on the score for the visitors from Bangor.
Exactly 4 minutes later, Husson would put another ball in the back of the net when Hannah Smith, from Auburn, Maine, crossed a shot from the right side into the left corner of the goal for a 2 to 0 Eagles lead. At the 16:41 mark Joan Overman of Washburn would score the 3rd goal of the half for Husson University on a pass from Mackenzie St. Pierre. 12 minutes later the Eagles would punch in their 4th score when Sydney Morton sneaked one past keeper Alexis Levesque on an assist from Alli Carey, and Husson would go into the halftime break with a commanding 4 to 0 lead.
UMPI was able to strike in the 2nd half at the 48:31 mark as Jordi Legassie (Sr. Presque Isle, ME) gave the Owls a boost with a score into the upper left corner of the net on a ball that was played in by Hannah Nadeau. The score provided a spark for Me-Presque Isle as they continued to be more assertive getting to the ball but couldn't quite find the net again to close the gap. Legassie's score was her 7th goal of the season as she finished off her outstanding career for the UMPI Owls.
The game remained 4 to 1 for the next 25 minutes before Shannon Dowd would would find a gap in the defense where the backs were too wide, and the Eagles freshman midfielder would drill a score into the right side of the net. Dowd woud would score again at the 78:38 mark on an assist from Megan Connor which completed the scoring and gave Husson a 6 to 1 victory.
UMPI goalie Alexis Levesque (Jr. Grand Isle, ME) had 17 saves in goal while Husson goalie Sami Ireland gave up the 1 goal on 1 shot.
