Presque Isle, ME - The UMPi Women's Soccer Team came into today's game knowing they were facing an excellent University of Maine-Fort Kent team and the Owls were up for the challenge in the opening half. UMPI came out with great intensity on Senior Day and played the Bengals tough early on.
After displaying some outstanding defense for the first 20 minutes of the half, UMFK's Veronica Paz got behind the Owls back line and pounded one into the net on which UMPI netminder Alexis Levsque had no chance for the save. Tolu Oyeniyi was credited with an assist on the play. UMPI continued to play hard and Hannah Nadeau put a couple of shots on goal and teammate Jordi Legassie appeared to have a breakway opportunity only to have Bengal's goalie Valentina Green leave the box and get a foot on the ball just in time to keep Legassie from the open net.
Me-Presque Isle keeper Alexis Levesque (Jr. Grand Isle, ME) kept the Owls in the game with several trendous saves before Paz was able to drill in a goal at the 34:39 mark to give UMFK a 2 to 0 lead that they would take into halftime.
