Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Soccer Team hosted SUNY Canton of New York in their Homecoming game at Park Family Field on the UMPI Campus today. The Owls (0-7, 0-3) fell short in a bid to win their first game of the season over the Kangaroos (3-7,1-2) after holding a 1 to 0 halftime lead.
UMPI got on the scoreboard early on an unassisted goal by striker Hannah Nadeau (Fr. Saint David, ME) at the 5:54 mark of the first half. The Owls had several other good chances to tack on a second score before intermission but couldn't find the back of the net.
In the second half, Junior Allison Wakefield tied the game up when she drilled home a goal on an assist from Ryan Shubert at the 61:55 mark. The Kangaroos would continue to apply pressure on the UMPI defense and net-minder Alexis Levesque (Jr. Graand Isle, ME). The New York sqaud would tally the game winning goal at the 73:54 mark on an unassisted score by senior midfielder Jaedyn Ossont which would close out the scoring for the afternoon.
Owls goal keeper Alexis Levesque had 13 saves on 15 shots on goal while SUNY Canton goalie Allison Wakefield turned back 2 shots on 3 UMPI attempts before Wakefield moved into the field of play and scored for the Kangaroos. Jenny Ward did not have to make any saves when she replaced Wakefield in the net.
