Randolph Center, VT - The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Soccer Team battled the entire game including two overtime periods before suffering a difficult 3-2 loss at Vermont Tech on Sunday afternoon. The Owls (0-4) matched play and intensity throughout the contest with the Knights (1-3) on the Vermont squads home turf.
Vermont Tech scored the first goal of the game at the 1:48 mark of the opening half on a score by Austen LaFrance with an assist from Dayana Goodell. UMPI would tie the game at 43:13 of the first half on an unassisted goal by striker Jordi Legassie (Sr. Presque Isle, ME) and the game would be deadlocked 1 to 1 at the intermission.
The Knights would strike again in the second half at the 63:23 mark on a goal by Kristin Ward on a feed from Kiana Royer. 18 minute later the Owls would knott the game at 2 to 2 when midfielder Sofia Crouse (Jr. Presque Isle, ME) found the net on a pass from Jordi Legassie. Both teams had a couple of scoring opportunities in regulation but it wasn't until Double Overtime and the 100:46 minute mark that the Knights tallied the game winner on Ward's 2nd goal of the game which was assisted by Madison Distel.
UMPI Goal Keeper Casey Lovely turned away 13 shots while Vermont Tech Keeper Paige perkins had 8 saves.
Next up: Me-Presque Isle will travel back to Vermont next weekend facing Northern Vermont University-Johnson on Saturday September 22nd at 1:00PM and will play at Fisher College in Massachusetts on Sunday September 23rd.
