WATERVILLE, ME – The Owls (1-3) were not able to capitalize on any of their opportunities against the Thomas Terriers (2-6) in women's soccer action Sunday night, and were shutout for the second day in a row, dropping a 2-0 decision.
The two teams struggled to get anything going early on, but the Owls created the first opportunity. In the 25th minute Janae Libby (SR, Fort Fairfield, ME) would find herself all alone in the box and sent a scoring opportunity to the right side of the net. The Terriers' Nikki Bradstreet (FR, Topsham, ME) was able to make a diving stop, keeping the game scoreless. UMPI would outshoot Thomas 3-0 in the first half, but the game would go to intermission without a score.
Thomas was able to make some halftime adjustments and turn up their pressure on UMPI. They would finally break through in the 78th minute when Taznae Fubler (FR, Smiths, Bermuda) put a shot just inside the right post to notch the first score of the game. Just two minutes later, Jada Samuels (FR, Hamilton, Bermuda) would tally a score, and the Terriers would defend their home pitch under the lights, winning their second straight game, this one by a score of 2-0.
The Owls next step on the field on Sunday, October 1st when they host Bryant and Stratton. That game will start at noon.
