PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The UMPI Women's Soccer team (0-3) played their first home game on Saturday. Maine Maritime Academy (2-1-1) took control of the game early and downed the Owls by a score of 8-0.
The Mariners took the lead early when Emil Wyman (JR, Brockton, MA) scored an unassisted goal in the sixth minute. After Allison Bouier (SO, Bangor, ME) scored a goal in the ninth minutes, the Owls ran into some back luck on the third goal. A Mariner corner kick deflected off of an Owl defender, ricocheted off the keeper, and set up Morgan Libby (SR, Brunswick, ME) with a wide open shot to put MMA up by three. The visitors would keep the pressure on throughout and get two goals in the game from Makayla Lewis (SO, Purcellville, VA) and Autumn Acord (FR, Richmond, ME) and go on to route the Owls 8-0.
"The first half is on me," said Head Coach Trevor Parent after the game. "I did not prepare our team to play Maine Maritime Academy at the level they are playing at. In the second half we strengthened our resolve and we have a great opportunity to finish the weekend on a good note tomorrow afternoon."
The Owls will host Thomas College at 1 PM tomorrow.
