BOSTON, MA – The Owls ended up on top of a back and forth battle with Wheelock College. The lone second half goal gave the University of Maine at Presque Isle a 3-2 win.
Bethany Heald (JR, Enfield, ME) got the scoring started in the fifth minute, getting an assist from Janae Libby (SO, Fort Fairfield, ME). The Owls would hold the lead for almost twenty minutes before the Wildcats would answer. In the 24th minute, junior Courtney Adams (Holliston, MA) would net her first of two goals on the day to tie the score. It wasn't long before UMPI would snatch the lead back as Jessy Dickison (SO, Houlton, ME) scored her fourth goal of the season, this one was unassisted. Adams struck again just before half, and the two teams would enter the break knotted at 2.
Wheelock had the advantage in shots in the first half, besting the Owls 13-7. UMPI would turn the tide in the second, as their offense would produce ten shots to the Wildcats' six. In the 55th minute Libby would connect on what proved to be the game winning goal, putting the Owls ahead 3-2. The Owls would dominate possession from that point on, as Wheelock only had three shots in the final 35 minutes of play. Allie Lopez (SO, Kingfield, ME) would save six shots in the victory.
"It's a great result after our recent run of form," said Coach Parent after the game. "Our team played well from start to finish. We had a lot of quality plays, three seperate scorers, great distribution, and a pretty solid result all the way around."
The Owls return home for their final game of the season on Saturday, October 24th. They will host the University of Maine at Fort Kent with the game scheduled to start at noon.
