PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The home standing Owls held their own and played the aggressor for much of their home opener with Unity, but dropped the match 4-1 as the visitors were able to turn momentum onto their side in the waning minutes of the match.

It was a tough battle that started with a quick score from Unity's Ashley Moeller just three minutes into the game, however the Owls didn't let them effect as they battled back controlling time of possession throughout the first half.

Presque Isle managed to even the score at the 30 minute mark when senior Jasmine Cote sent a crossing pass to freshmen sensation Sam Nadeau.  Despite hitting Unity with a barrage of shots in the first half, that saw the Owls hold a 14-6 advantage in shots after the first 45 minutes, the game was deadlocked 1-1 at the half.

The second half saw some exceptional work in net as both the Owls goalkeeper Allison Lopez and Unity's Sierra Marchacos were on top of their collective games.  Lopez would finish with 6 saves and Marchacos had 8.

Until the 78th minute the ebb and flow of the matched seemed destined for overtime with a back and forth game solidly played by both squads unwilling to let control slip.  At 78:22 Unity's Mariza Gionfriddo was able to chip a through ball sent by McKinley Bell up and over Allison Lopez to give Unity a 2-1 lead.

The natural letdown from the Owls was followed with a surge by Unity that saw another goal almost immediately by Alexandra Pesano moving the lead to 3-1 Unity at 78:41. The lady Owls tried to get something going in the closing minutes but Unity's Mariza Gionfriddo would score one more time before the final whistle bringing the final score to 4-1 Unity.

The Lady Owls will face Fisher next Saturday, September 20th at noon as part of UMPI's soccer doubleheader for the 2014 homecoming.
