Bangor, ME --  The Maine-Presque Isle women's soccer team split their games at the Husson University Classic this weekend.

Rivier University beat the Owls 5-1 in the Saturday opener.  Megan Caron got the Raiders on the board just 13 minutes into the contest. Presque Isle would fight back and knot the game at 1 when freshman Sam Nadeau scored her first collegiate goal at the 20 minute mark.

The rest of the match belonged to the Raiders  sophomore Maggie Cohoon who would score three goals after Caron scored the go-ahead goal with 9 minutes left in the first half.

Rivier outshot the Owls 19-11.

Allison Lopez made 10 saves in the loss.

Presque Isle 4 Wheelock 1

Sunday would bring a better result for the ladies from Presque Isle, as the Owls dominated control of the ball, beating Wheelock College 4-1.

In the first half, UMPI peppered Wheelock's keeper with shots as they dictated the flow and pace of the match. Several superb stops and defensive efforts kept the contest close as the Owls were unable to break through until the 33rd minute. Rookie Samantha Nadeau ran onto a ball off of a free kick from sophomore Mikaelah Tracy and chipped her effort over the charging Wheelock goalie to give UMPI a 1-0 advantage.

Despite a 21-3 edge in shots in the first period, the Owls would only take the one goal lead into the break.  Two minutes into the second stanza, the Wildcats would tie the match at 1 when sophomore Alison DeGloria put home a skidding goal past the diving Lopez.

Showing a strong resolve, the young Owls fought back a game Wheelock squad that was able to change momentum early in the second half and would regain control of the match late in the game.

In the 77th minute, Nadeau and the Owls took over the game. This time, Nadeau settled a cross from classmate Janae Libby and scored her third goal of the young season. With 8 minutes remaining, Libby put another goal on the board as her bouncing cross found its way into the net.

Finally, Nadeau struck again in the 85th minute as a two-on-none with Libby resulted in her completing a hat trick into an empty net as UMPI pulled away for the final 4-1 margin of victory.

Maine-Presque Isle (1-1) will next play Maine Maritime on Friday, at the Thomas College Classic. Action starts at 5pm.
