BLUE & GOLD DEFEAT SOUTHERN MAINE 1-0

Sophomore dynamo Nicole Cyr made her return to the Owl lineup memorable, snapping home the game-winning goal less than 3 minutes into her first appearance back from an injury.  While the youthful squad of Owl booters outshot the visiting crew from SMCC 17-9 in the first period, the match was an even, back and forth half of solid soccer.

Knotted at 0-0, Owl second year mentor Trevor Parent inserted Cyr to start the second half of play.  Returning from injury and on a strict playing time limit, Cyr immediately added the offensive punch the Blue & Gold needed to bring home the 1-0 win just 2:50 into the second stanza.  Cyr pounced on a Bethany Heald shot that bolted off the left post and into her kicking range for a point blank goal that would last the remaining 42 minutes of play as the game winner.

SMCC goalkeeper Sydney Procter was the singular reason the Owls could not increase the lead in the second 45 minutes of play.  The Owls hammered the steady Procter with 20 second half shots, leading to her 14 saves on the day.

SMCC leaves Presque Isle 3-4-3, while the Blue & Gold are now 4-6-1 on the season and the Owls will return to Park Family Field, Sunday, October 6 to host the Clippers from UMaine rival Machias as part of a men's/women's doubleheader.  Action starts at noon with the women's match and the UMPI-Machias men's match to follow at 2pm.
