Presque Isle, Maine - The UMPI women continued their strong early season play against visiting St. Thomas University of New Brunswick, CA, posting a 2-1 victory, Sunday at Park Family Field.
Nicole Cyr (Madawaska, ME) was once again a shining star on the field, scoring the first goal at 29:14 and then assisting on Bethany Heald's ((Enfield, ME) second goal (32:32) in as many collegiate games for the Freshman. Senior Jen Ouellette (Van Buren, ME), displaying much needed senior leadership, tallied her second assist of the season assisting the Cyr goal.
The Blue and Gold dominated the games possessions until Stephanie Clarke (Newmarket, ON) broke through a staunch Owl defense to score the Rams only goal of the game at 54:45.
UMPI would bend, but not break for the remainder of the match and comes away from a great opening weekend standing at 2-0. The women will next participate in the Thomas College Invitational and play Maine Maritime under the lights on Friday, September 6 at 7pm in Waterville, ME.
