(CONCORD, NH) -- Kallie Pelletier (So./Madawaska, ME) scored a goal in the 98th minute to give the University of Maine-Presque Isle women's soccer team a 1-0 overtime victory at New Hampshire Technical Institute on Sunday. A day after scoring six goals, UMPI's Lainey Herring (Sr./Houlton, ME) assisted on the Pelletier goal.
The Owls (4-6) won two games over the weekend, matching their season total up to that point. The Lynx fell to 4-4-2 on the season.
UMPI first year head coach, Trevor Parent, who has seen his team endure a plethora of injuries so far thus season, sees a light at the end of that tunnel.
"The team, as a collective, is starting to really come together," said Parent. "We have always had the talent, and now it is about applying that talent to the games within our system of play. We are still looking to get a couple of our injuries issues behind us, but this is a special group. A couple of true standouts are "Beauche" (Chelsea Beauchemin) and "Jen" (Jennifer Ouellette). These two really combined well and played significant roles in both of the results this past weekend."
UMaine-Presque Isle originally had been slated to play two matches next weekend. However due to Eastern Maine Community College suspending its women's soccer program for the remainder of the season, the Owls will now have an extra day to prepare for Maine Maritime Academy, who they play this Sunday, October 7th.
