Late 1st Half Flurry Propels Clippers

(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) --  Emma LeGallais (Cornwall, Ontario) had a monster day, scoring four goals and leading the visiting Clippers of the University of Maine-Machias over host UMaine-Presque Isle, 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon.  The loss for the Owls drops them to 2-4 on the season.

LaGallais opened the scoring in the first half with a goal in the 16th minute.  The Owls however knotted the game back up two minutes later when Chelsea Beauchemin (So./Adams, ME) set up Lainey Herring (Sr./Houlton, ME) for her team leading 7th goal of the season.

That was as close as UMPI would get the rest of the way as UMM (4-2) would begin to pepper freshman goalkeeper Amanda Larrabee (Fr./Jackson, ME).  Jenny Guzman (Belleville, NJ) gave the Clippers a lead they would not again relinquish with a goal in the 26th minute.  LeGallais would then score her second and third goals of the game to help UMM pull away.  Amanda Cormier-Shean (Plymouth, MA) finished the first half scoring with three minutes to go giving the Clippers a 5-1 lead at the break.

Machias outshot the Owls 16-3 in the first and 25-8 for the game.

LeGallais opened the 2nd half with her 4th goal at 43:44.  Kara Ligenfelter (Pasadena, MD) added a goal 14:59 to give UMM their final margin of victory.

Owls senior goalkeeper Taylor Ussery (Sr./La Verne, CA) missed her 3rd straight contest due to injury.  Her replacement, Larrabee, finished Wednesday with 5 saves.

UMPI will travel out of state this upcoming weekend for a pair of matches.  On Saturday, September 22nd, the team will play SUNY-Canton at 7pm.  Then on Sunday they will be at Paul Smith's College.  Start time on the 23rd will be 3pm.
