Farmington Blitzes Owl Women, 10-0

FARMINGTON, Maine – Sophomore forward Ava Amador (Farmington, ME) scored three goals while senior forward Alida Peake (Penobscot, ME) added two more to lead the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team to a 10-0 shutout of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Thursday afternoon at Prescott Field.

Junior midfielder Rachel Clement (Gray, ME) scored UMaine-Farmington's
(2-1-0) first goal in the 21st minute off an assist from junior Kayla Tuttle (Waterville, Maine), giving the Beavers all the offense they would need to win the game.

However UMF would add goals by Amador, Peake, and Meryl Bond (Jefferson, ME) before the close of the first half, taking a commanding 4-0 lead into the intermission.

Peake would score the Beavers' first two goals of the second half in the 50th and 68th minutes, followed by two from Amador to complete her hat-trick.

Seniors Krista Morrison (Calais, ME) and Noelle Moulton (Cape Neddick, ME) would cap UMF's scoring with goals in the 83rd and 86th minutes respectively.

"Today was a tough task, playing a strong and well coached side," said Owls' first year coach, Trevor Parent.  "Moving forward, as we gain experience, we will be in a decent position.  We have to continue to get better with every training session and match."

UMPI played Thursday down six starters, the result of a physically costly contest at UMaine-Fort Kent last weekend.  Goalkeeper Taylor Ussery (Sr./La Verne, CA) did not make the trip due to injury.  Ussery had been in goal every minute of the 2011 season and every match so far this season.

UMaine-Farmington outshot UMPI (1-3-0), 45-3, and had eight corner kicks to the Owls' one. The Beavers were also whistled offside 16 times.

UMPI keeper Amanda Larrabee (Fr./Jackson, ME) made her goalkeeping debut with the Owls.  Larrabee played all 90 minutes and recorded 15 saves.

Presque Isle will not have much time to heal before taking to the pitch again on Saturday, September 15th, when they will host Fisher College.  Start time is set for 2pm.  It will be Homecoming for UMPI as well as the team's first home game of the season.
