About the Owls

In 2011, the University of Maine-Presque Isle women's soccer team posted a 10-4 record, narrowly missing out on an invitation to the 8-team United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament.

Nine players from that team will be in uniform on September 1st when the Owls begin the 2012 campaign at Vermont Tech, including Lainey Herring(Sr./Houlton, ME), the leading returning goal scorer.  Herring scored four goals in 2011 and finished the season with 9 points.

Also back for the Owls is GK Taylor Ussery (Sr./La Verne, CA).  Ussery guarded the goal in all 14 of UMPI's matches last year and was on the winning end of 6 shut outs.

Trevor Parent will move over from the sidelines of the UMPI men's soccer team, where he served as Alan Gordon's assistant last year, to head up the women's program.  An UMPI grad and former Owls soccer player himself, Parent's message in his first pre-season has been clear.

"Consistency," said Parent.  "I didn't want to come in and change the working wheel.  We expect consistency in the way we train, and how we train, in regards to effort. We want to be consistent but not predictable. There is a difference."

Vermont Tech KNIGHTS

2012 Record 0-0
Head Coach Jenn Norton-Magnan (7th Season)
 Last Year  3-12
 Affiliation USCAA
 Conference Yankee
About the Knights Head Coach Jenn Norton-Magnan brings to the pitch a fairly young team surrounded by a few key returning upper classmen. The biggest loss from last year's squad is United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-American, YSCC All-Conference and team Captain Goalie Abbie Senesac (Williston, VT), who did more than her part in keeping the Knights in games throughout 2011. Although replacing a goalie and strong leader such as Senesac will not be easy, the Knights do return some powerful pieces from last year's team. Senior forward and 2011 YSCC All-Conference Ashley Lockerby (Enosburg Falls, VT) will attempt to lead the Knights in goals scored for the second straight season. In addition, midfielders Senior Kelly Vellek (Burlington, VT) and Sophomore Halie Shea (Lisbon, NH) will do their best to control the ball and lead Vermont Tech back to the top of the YSCC.
