Presque Isle, ME (10-9-11) – Last weekend the University of Maine-Presque Isle Women's Soccer Team traveled to New York and scored a pair of victories over SUNY-Canton. Sunday they got the season sweep as the Owls defeated the Roos, 3-0, at Park Family Field in Presque Isle.
The Owls drew first blood only five minutes into the contest when Lainey Herring (Jr./Houlton, ME) took the carom off a shot from Desiree Smith (Sr./Thomaston, ME) and drove it into the back of the net. At the 17:34 mark, Owls midfielder Chelsea Beauchemin (Fr./Adams, MA) blasted a bullet from 25 yards out on a free kick that found the upper back corner and gave UMPI a 2-0 advantage.
Herring put the game out of reach in the 2nd half, getting behind the defense for her 7th goal in three games against the Roos this season, giving UMPI a 3-0 advantage.
Both teams came into today's matchup ranked in the latest USCAA Coaches' Poll, UMPI at #13 and Canton at #16. The Owls have now won 4 straight and improved its record to 7-4.
Today's game was the last home match for UMPI this season. It was Senior Day as the Owls honored three seniors, Smith, Jackie Poulin (Sr./Washburn, ME) and Carolyn Tuck (Sr./Brewer, ME) were all honored for their contributions to the program. They will next play at Thomas College on Sunday October 16th. Action from Waterville, ME is set to begin at 1:00pm.
