Owls Win 7th Straight

CASTINE, Maine (10-23-11) – Elena Estrada (SO./Dover, DE) scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to lead the University of Maine-Presque Isle to a 3-1 win at Maine Maritime Academy on Sunday. Chelsea Beauchemin (FR/Adams, MA) assisted two of the Owls (10-4) goals, including the game winner.

Estrada's first came 3:47 into the second half. That's when she redirected Beauchemin's corner kick into the Mariners (0-15) net to make it a 2-0 game. It was exactly seven minutes later that Estrada struck again. The sophomore was on one knee when she finished a scramble on the goalmouth to make it 3-0.

Estrada's game winner was the Owls second goal scored on a corner kick. Beauchemin served a lob into the box in the 11th minute. The goals were Estrada's 6th and 7th on the season.

UMPI entered this weekend's matches ranked #10 in the latest USCAA Coaches' Poll.  With their two wins this weekend, the Owls hope to strengthen their case for an invitation to 8-team, USCAA National Tournament held in Asheville, NC on November 3-5.

UMPI returns to action for their final game of the regular season next Sunday at UMaine-Machias.  The Owls were shut out by the Clippers, 2-0 back on September 18th in Presque Isle.  Game time is set for 1pm.
