(PRESQUE ISLE, ME) -- The USCAA has announced the 2012 USCAA Non-Sport National All-Academic Team for the winter season of competition. Seven members from the University of Maine-Presque Isle Nordic Ski team appear on the list.
From the women's team: Carly Langley (So./Truro, Nova Scotia), Justine Cyr (Sr./Fort Kent, ME), Chelsea Beauchemin (Jr./Adamns, MA), Kati Christoffel (Jr./Clifton Park, NY), and LeAnn Abbott (Jr./Sumner, ME)
From the men's team: Justin Fereshetian (Sr./Turner, ME) and Richard Landry (So./Millvillage, Nova Scotia).
"I am proud of the skiers that were named to the All-Academic team this year," said Owls' head coach Paul Stone. "It just goes to show the dedication of many of our top athletes that they excel both on the trails and in the classroom."
The National All-Academic Award is designed to recognize all student-athletes (Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors at 4 year institutions and Sophomores at 2 year institutions) and have an overall (cumulative) grade point average of 3.50 (on a 4.00 point system) or greater.
The Non-Sport All-Academic Award is for those student athletes that participate at a member institution in a sport that is not recognized by the USCAA. Attached is a document listing the winners for the 2011-12 Winter season.
