Owls Fall to Flacons in Last Minute Run

Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls women's basketball team hosted the Fisher College Flacons out of Boston, Mass. on Tuesday. The Owls fought hard on both ends of the floor despite their struggles shooting, with a late game finish, the Owls fell to the Falcons 59-53.

The Falcons came out strong with a 20-point first quarter while they shot 40% from both the field and the three, while UMPI struggled early shooting from deep. The Owls answered in the second quarter as they shot 7-13 from the field to finish out the first half. Down 33-29 the Owls cut  that once more in the third bringing them within two points, as they only allowing 10 points from the Falcons in the third. The fourth and final 10 minutes, both teams stepped up their defense not allowing either team to get in rhythm. UMPI down by eight with just over five minutes to go, they would go on a 9-2 run to tie the game with two minutes left. Unfortunately for the Owls, the Falcons bounced back to finish the game on a 6-0 run.

The Owls were led by Alexis Ireland's (Howland, ME) 17 points and 11 rebound game, yet another double-double for the sophomore. Emily Wheaton (Presque Isle, ME) finished with 15 points on the game.

The Owls will head into conference play as they face off against North Atlantic Conference opponent U-Maine at Farmington, this weekend. Weather pending.
