Owls Wrap Up First Semester Play with a 4-3 Record

Presque Isle, ME – The Owls women's basketball team hosted their final game of the first semester vs the University of Maine at Augusta. The high intensity game would come down to the final minute, as the Moose were able to hang on, winning 59-53.

Both team battled throughout the entire game with 5 ties and 5 lead changes throughout the game while the largest lead being 11 points in favor of the Moose. Each team battled in the paint, finishing the game with an even 22 points each in the paint. Also, close to even were the turnover as UMA finished with 17 to the Owls 18. The game was tied 53 all with just under three minutes left when the Moose stepped up their defense as the Owls struggled to score down the stretch, as the game ended 59-53.

Mariah Dunbar (Canaan, ME) led the Owls in scoring with 12 points on 4-9 shooting and 3-5 from beyond the arc. Alexis Ireland led the team in rebounds and steals finishing with 14 rebounds and three steals, while Emily Wheaton (Presque Isle, ME) finished the game with ten points, four rebounds and four assists. Paige Espling (Caribou, ME) who led the Owls on the defensive end with her presence in the paint. Finishing the game with seven blocks and ten rebounds to go along with her six points.

This finishes out the Owls first semester play as they will come back to play after winter break, starting back up with two games in early January, 3rd and 4th they will head to Canada to face off against the non-conference opponent the University of New Brunswick – St. John.
