Fort Kent, ME – The UMPI Owls women's basketball team took on U-Maine at Fort Kent in their first of back to backs, to finish the season off. The game was close early on before an 11-point run in the third quarter, giving the Owls the lead and they never looked back, winning 71-53.
The Back and forth play early in the game was led by Owls Emily Wheaton's (Presque Isle, ME) 11-point first half. Along with five other scorers, the Owls team play gave them an early lead in the first quarter. Cooling off from their 50% in the first, UMPI still would score 14 in the quarter as the Bengals tied the game going into the half. The Owls defense led them to some outstanding shooting in the third. Shooting 58% from the field and 2-3 from three in those ten minutes. UMPI followed the fourth quarter with more scoring, putting the game away and earning an 18-point victory.
Wheaton led all scorers with 17 points off 6-14 shooting from the field and 4-8 from the three. Mariah Dunbar (Canaan, ME) finished with 14 points on only seven shot attempts, 5-7 from the field and going 4-6 from behind the arc. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) finished the game a perfect 5-5 from the field, 12 points, while adding six rebounds and six assists. First year player Lexi Ireland (Howland, ME) finished with a double-double off 10 points and 11 rebound.
The Owls finish their season with the second half of their back-to-back vs UMFK, while celebrating their lone senior Marissa Valdivia Reagle's senior day. This will be the Owls first home game of the year, tip off at 1:00pm.
